Young Lady Eagles Are Ready for Season to Start
November 27, 2012Madison Southern High School
The Madison Southern Lady Eagles are ready to begin the season. Most of last year's team returns because the team only lost one starter. The Lady Eagles will be young, but they are experienced since most of the sophomores and juniors have been playing varsity for a couple of years. Three starters return from last year's team that finished as the district runner-up.
The Lady Eagles did get some bad news though when they learned that sophomore Kristen Hayes tore her ACL and will be out for the season. Hayes was one of the team's top scorers last year. "It's definitely a loss," said head coach Summer Simmons, "but we think we have players that will step up and fill in the gap." Sophomores Rachel Ramey, Samantha Parms, and Kelley Freeman were starters last year and will share ball handling responsibilities with Hayes out of the lineup. Freshmen Brianna Lanham is a player that Simmons also thinks will be a big contributer for the team this season. Seniors Sara Smith and Hayden Westfall will also provide experience down low for the Lady Eagles.
The Lady Eagles will begin their season Friday night at home against Nicholas County.
