Volleyball Team Outlasts North Laurel

September 8, 2012
Madison Southern High School

Thursday night was a very long for the players and fans who came out to watch the Madison Southern volleyball team face North Laurel.  After both the freshmen and JV games went the full three sets, the varsity game went the full five sets.  The Eagles started the match off with two come from behind wins in the first two games.  The Lady Eagles won both of the first matches 25-23.  In the third set, Southern held the lead for most of the game before losing the lead with the score 23-22.  North Laurel won the next point to have game point, but the Eagles got a kill from Jackie Sheperd to pull within one.  Eventually though, North Laurel won the third game 26-24.  A hard fought fourth set went to North Laurel and forced a fifth game.  After falling behind 13-8, the Lady Eagles battled back to pick up the win 17-15 and win the match on a kill from sophomore Sara Castle.

It was a tiring night for the Lady Eagles, but they found a way to come out with the win.  Head Coach Jeremy Grant said, "That is one of the best volleyball games I've ever been around and I think at the end of the night everyone was exhausted.  I know I was!"

The volleyball team will be back in action Monday at home against Jackson County.
