Adkins Qualifies for State Governor's Cup

Sophomore Emily Adkins found out this weekend she'll be making Madison Southern history.  Adkins was awarded fifth place Saturday in the Written Composition area of Regional Governor's Cup.  Her top five finish automatically qualifies her to compete in the State Governor's Cup competition on March 11th in Lexington, KY.  Adkins' accomplishment also is significant because she is the first Madison Southern student to ever qualify for State Governor's Cup competition in Written Composition.

Written Composition is what many students know as an on-demand writing.  The participants are given a prompt that usually calls for them to write an editorial, persuasive essay, etc. and provide their opinion on the issue addressed in the prompt.  At Regional competition, the prompt focused on the California Supreme Court's decision to not criminalize the sale of violent video games to minors.
