Home » Boys' Basketball NewsAbshear Breaks Record in Eagles Win Over FrankfortFebruary 18, 2012 Madison Southern High SchoolThe gym at Madison Southern was packed for senior night, but it was a junior who stole the show. Junior guard Tyler Abshear scored 42 points to break the single-game scoring record at MSHS as the Eagles picked up an 82-78 win over visiting Frankfort. The game started with Frankfort racing out to a 6-0 lead before the hot shooting of Chris Roberts led an Eagle charge for an 8-6 lead. The teams traded spurts throughout the first half and, after Damian Harris got a rebound putback with less than two seconds on the clock, the Eagles went into the half with a 37-34 lead. When the Eagles came out to start the second half Abshear seemed unstoppable. He drove to the basket at will, attacked the offensive glass, and scored 17 points in the quarter. At the end of three, the Eagles led 61-50. Frankfort staged a furious rally late in the fourth quarter and cut the lead to three with just over a minute. The visiting team actually had a chance to cut into the lead deeper when their full court press created a turnover, but they came up empty on the ensuing possession. The free throw shooting of Abshear, Roberts, and senior Brandon McGuire sealed the win for the Eagles. The Eagles finish the regular season 9-18. They will be in action facing Model in the 1st round of district tournament play Wednesday night.
