The future Patriot signed in the MSHS auditorium which was filled with family, friends, teachers, coaches, and members of the 2011 Eagle football team. The word "special" was used many times to describe Lake as MSHS Athletic Director Doug Sallee, MSHS Head Football Coach Jon Clark, and UC assistant coach Michael Collins addressed the crowd. Clark said he was proud to have Lake as his first college signee as the coach of the Eagles. He also added, "When you start a program you want a player you can point to and say this is how we do things, this is the right way to do things," in reference to Lake's contributions on the field and in the locker room. Sallee pointed out that despite being involved with football and several other clubs and activities, Lake had the highest GPA on the football team.
