MUSTANG BASEBALL TEAM 3A STATE RUNNER-UP
May 14, 2010Madison Academy
The Mustangs were ranked #1 throughout the season and had high hopes of bringing home another State Championship. However, they finished their run with a 6-3 loss to Laverne High School in the final game of the 3A State Championship this week in Montgomery.
The series got off to a hopeful start Tuesday evening at Riverwalk Stadium. Drew Mobley got the complete game shut out against the Tigers, a fete that proved to be a tremendous accomplishment against a good hitting ball club. Backed up by a relentless defense and opportunistic hitting, Mobley walked away with a 9-0 win.
The Tigers saved their ace for game two. Monterio May, the series MVP, put on a solid pitching performance that resulted in the Mustangs first loss of the season to a team smaller than 5A. Our Mustangs responded with a determined effort in game three, but it wasn't enough.
Mustang fans are proud of the skill, dedicated preparation, and achievements of all our athletic teams. We are grateful for the contributions of our players and coaches to the quality of campus life at Madison Academy. The only way you could let us down is by failing to give your best effort. So, today we share the disappointment of our baseball team, but want you to know that you make us proud to be Mustangs!
