Recap: Two Halves, Two Stories, One Game

September 10, 2012
Lake Worth Community High School

It was definitely two different stories Friday night at Palm Beach Central high school as the Broncos defeated the Trojans running away with it in the second half 56-26.  The reason for the two different stories is because the first half was a see saw battle between the teams with Lake Worth having the momentum heading into halftime.

The Broncos received the ball first and on the first drive a great defensive play by Lake Worth defender Clarence Theophile led to a tipped ball falling into the arms of defensive back Richard Seraphin as he raced 35 yards for the touchdown. The extra point failed.

The Broncos benefited from great field position due to the lack of offense by the Trojans and they looked to run away with the game as they scored 28 straight points off of 3 touchdown passes and 1 rush to lead 28-6.

The Trojans are defining a name in terms of not quitting as they battled back with 20 straight unanswered points to cut the lead to 28-26. A great kick return by Richard Seraphin put the Trojans in the red zone and a 3rd down touchdown pass to tight end Eliezer Hernandez and a 2 point conversion pass to Nigel Ceasar cut the lead to 28-14. The Trojan defense forced a punt on the next drive and the Trojan offense started a drive inside their ten yard line. On a 3rd down play quarterback, Luis Peguero, hit senior wide receiver Jermer Braswell for a 90 yard touchdown catch to cut the lead to 28-20 as the extra point failed.

The defense battled back and forced a turnover on the next drive as the Trojans got the ball with 2 minutes left in the half and a huge catch and run for 65 yards by Trojans big wide receiver James Jones cut the lead to 28-26 as the two point conversion failed.

That would be it for the Trojans as the second half was a nightmare. It opened up with an interception inside the ten yard line and on the next play the Broncos ran it in. On the next series the Broncos defense forced a punt and a bad snap led to another Broncos touchdown and they ran away with the game as nothing seemed to go right for the Trojans. It was a disappointing game because the first half was exciting and looked to come down to the wire, but the young Trojans cracked under pressure and blew a great opportunity to make a name for themselves as they fall to 0-2.

The Trojans look to bounce back in their home opener and district opener against West Boca next Friday, September 14th at Lake Worth High School.

Quick notes...James Jones was a highlight for the Trojans offense as he had over 100 yards receiving and a remarkable touchdown catch and run. Luis Peguero threw for 3 touchdowns and 1 interception. Jermer Braswell added to his great start in his senior season with a highlight 90 yard touchdown catch and run. Field position was a factor in the game as the Trojan defense had to start in their own zone most of the night.
