Tropical Storm Isaac has put a downpour damper on the start of the 2012 football season. Unfortunately, the kickoff classic between Lake Worth and Park Vista was cut short due to lightning and rain storms brought on by the tropical storm. The two teams played a quarter and there was not much that we could take from the game. Both teams looked like it was a preseason kickoff classic as there were numerous mistakes and penalties. The highlight of the night was for Park Vista, as a blown coverage by the Lake Worth secondary led to the only score of the quarter that was played. Park Vista was up 7-0 when the game was called, but that was not a telling of how the game would have played out if it were to go the full length.
The Lake Worth defense made numerous mistakes jumping offsides, but they also played strong. A key fourth down pass break up by number 4, Richard Seraphin, was a key play stopping Park Vista's opening drive.
Luis Peguero hit Nigel Ceasar on a nice 3rd down pass on Lake Worth's opening drive that drove them inside Park Vista's territory. Unfortunately, a few plays later Jermer Braswell got tangled up with a Park Vista defender and the intended pass was intercepted stopping Lake Worth's drive.
Not much occurred after that as the game was delayed for over an hour, and then eventually called after finishing the 1st quarter.
With Palm Beach County schools closed for Monday and Tuesday of this week, there is uncertainty of what the schedule will be like for Friday, but Lake Worth did show a lot of fight, which is a good sign for things to come.
