Jimmie Currently has offers from
Lee’s Summit linebacker Jimmie Swain is one of the more athletic defenders in the Midwest and schools are starting to take notice. The 6-foot-2.5, 210-pound junior recently picked up his first two offers.
Jimmie Swain has been offered by Iowa and Kansas.
“I have an offer from [Kansas] and I have an offer from the University of Iowa,” Swain said on Tuesday evening. “Iowa offered me a couple weeks ago after I talked to their coach on the phone. Last weekend I went to the KU junior day and they offered me there.”
Both of the offers caught Swain a bit off guard.
“I had talked to the linebacker coach, LeVar Woods, from Iowa a lot,” he said. “He and I have great conversations all the time. I wasn’t expecting him to offer me that quick though. I think I had been talking to him for like two weeks before he offered me.
“KU, I had met their recruiting coordinator once but I didn’t hear anything from them for a little while. Then they invited me to their junior day and offered me there. I wasn’t expecting that one at all but it was nice to get.”
A trio of other schools has been showing quite a bit of interest as well.
“I’m scheduled to go to Illinois’ junior day on Mar. 9,” Swain said. “I was talking to the Michigan State recruiter. They’re going to let me know probably in April or May about an offer but he wants me to come up and visit.
“I talked to the Nebraska recruiter yesterday and he said he really liked my film and he needs to pass it on to the linebacker coach and it would go up the chain.”
Swain does not necessarily have any early favorites but he has done quite a bit of research on one school in particular.
“Obviously the two that have offered are standing out,” he said. “Recently I’ve been checking out everyone’s academic programs a lot because that’s what I’m going there for – school.
“I really like Michigan State’s campus and it seems like they have a really good program for what I want to major in. I want to do business administration with probably a minor in marketing. I also went on their website and saw a lot about their strength and conditioning coach. I’ve extensively looked at them but I haven’t had a chance to really like into Nebraska and Illinois too much yet.”
