Heartbreaker in Howard Lake to open the season. The Orphans struck first in the 3rd inning when Loretto starter Troy Beckman walked right fielder Matt Streich, Dan Wackler would follow up with a single to put runners on 1st and 3rd. Luke Gagnon would roll over to first base but the throw home was wide and Streich slid in safe.

The Larks would tally one in the 6th, 7th, and 9th innings. In the 6th, shortstop Kent Koch led off with a single and would come around to score on an error by the shortstop on a ball in play from catcher Eric Schutte. In the 7th, Rob Doboszenski got things started with a one out single and would get knocked in by Brandon Scanlon. In the 9th, the Larks would tack on one more run with a two out single by Kent Koch who would steal 2nd base to get into scoring position. Then Tyler Maher came through with a RBI base hit.

The Larks went into the bottom of the 9th up 3-1 with two outs and a man on first but were unable to get the final out. Howard Lake would plate 3 runs in the 9th capped off with an infield single off the bat of Steve Boger to walk it off.
