January 28, 2014 vs WACO

The varsity Lady Lions righted another wrong from earlier in the season  by defeating WACO 58-50.  Our Lady Lions  were sluggish, probably from all the missed games and practices due to  inclement weather recently, but in the end they came together to finish with  the win.  Flemr had a big night in her basketball  career, reaching 1000+ points.  Flemr  joined an elite group of five other Lady Lions who, in the history of our  basketball program, have membership in the 1000 Career Point Club.  She finished the night with a  double-double.

Next game:   Friday, January 31, 2014 vs WMU

The Lady  Lion JV team found themselves in a cat and mouse fight, exchanging leads  several times, Thursday, January 30, 2014, in WACO.  We had trouble getting going, scoring only 6  points in the first quarter and ending the quarter 5 points down.  We moved to man defense in the second quarter  containing WACO to only 4 points, finishing the half 19-14.  Boxing out and rebounding was extremely poor  in the first half, only grabbing 5 the entire first half.  We set a goal at half time to double our  rebounding by game’s end.  They surpassed  that goal, pulling in 21.  The win was  not secured until the buzzer sounded as it was back and forth with fouls,  missed shots and turnovers, all adding to the intensity of the game. In the  end, the Lady Lions kept their heads and hearts in the game to bring home the  victory, 35-33.  This victory was a solid teamwin with a lot of things  happening on the court that stats just don’t reflect and for that, this victory  was most gratifying.

Total  Points:  Chandler 16, Dodson & Edwards 7, Grover 4, Pierson 1
Three  Points:  Chandler (2)
Rebounds:  Grover 9, Alt 4, Wieland, Dodson, Chandler 2, Edwards & Pierson 1
Steals: Chandler 7,  Dodson 4, Edwards, Wieland, Grover 2, Pierson & Alt 1
