December 13, 2013 vs. Mediapolis
December 17, 2013Lone Tree Community School
The 7th ranked class 3A Mediapolis Bullettes came to Lone Tree Friday night ready to notch another victory. The Lady Lions did not make it easy for them, scrapping for rebounds and loose balls. The first quarter ended with the Lady Lions in a 6 point deficit; 8-14. But, from there Mediapolis was on the attack, shooting 46% from the field. In contrast the Lady Lions shot 21% from the field. Freshman Maryssa Grover made her varsity debut playing in all four quarters and putting 2 points, 2 rebounds and 1 block to her name. In addition, she did not turn over the ball once, the only one on the team able to make that claim. The game was aggressive and very physical but we kept everyone out of foul trouble and battled to the end. The Lady Lions showed a real team effort, by encouraging each other to keep shooting, hustling and scrapping for every ball. We still need to work on taking care of our own ball and not giving it away so many times. While the score was not what we strived for, it was not indicative of the effort and hard work these ladies put towards the game on Friday night.

It was another doozy of a game in the girls JV gym on Friday night. The Lady Lions tangled with Mediapolis in a fast paced, high intensity game. Scoring was spread out among 7 team members with three in double figures. The Lady Lions ended the first half in an 8 point deficit. But, the second half proved a battle of wills…who will stay in the game the longest? With 6 minutes left in the game Lone Tree tied the score at 41. With 3 minutes in the game we were behind by 3 points and lost three of our players to fouls, leaving us short one player on the court. The Lady Lions held the score for a minute and a half before the Bullettes figured out it was 4 on 5 and spread our defense, ultimately defeating us by 9; 46-55.
