Home » Softball NewsLady Lions @ Columbus Jct. - June 11, 2012June 12, 2012 Lone Tree Community SchoolLady Lions @ Columbus Jct. - Varsity Doubleheader - June 11, 2012 The Lone Tree Lady Lions traveled to Columbus last night for a big varsity doubleheader against the undefeated first-place Wildcats. The Lady Lions played great and won both games to boost them into a tie for first place with Columbus. In the first game the Lady Lions exploded for five runs in the fourth inning to take an 8-2 lead. Columbus closed the gap to 8-5 then the Lady Lions exploded again in the tip of the 7th behind a three-run double by Jenny Jones then Jones scored on a wild pitch to give the Lions the final 12-5 win. Maggie Schmidt was the winning pitcher striking out 6. Jenny Jones had 5 rbi's for the game. Karley Hester and Madelyn Flemr both scored three runs. The team only committed two errors and played great defense against the speedy Wildcats. Rightfielder Elyssa Mills made some outstanding catches to lead our defense. In game two the Wildcats jumped out to a 4-1 lead. The Lady Lions were able to close to 4-3 in the bottom of the fourth. The Lady Lions were able to take a 5-4 lead going into the top of the seventh, but the Wildcats scored the tying run which set up the dramatic 7th inning finish for the Lady Lions. Madelyn Flemr led off with a walk then Makenzie Reynolds hit the game-winning double to score the speedy Flemr standing up to win the game for the Lady Lions. Abbie Schmidt had a two-run single in the fourth to get the Lady Lions into striking distance and the defense made some great hustle plays. Jenny Jones had two doubles in the game. "The girls went down to Columbus with the mindset they could win both games and come out in first place in the conference. I'm very proud of their effort!"
