Cameron Looper threw for career-highs of 401 yards and six touchdowns as Lone Oak beat Marion County 45-28 on Nov. 27 at Flash Field to advance to the Kentucky high school Class 4A state championship game for the second time in three years. Fellow senior Matt Starks rushed for 83 yards and caught a career-high nine passes for 170 yards and two touchdowns. Jared Hill and Carson Beyer also each hauled in two touchdown passes, with Beyer's 61-yard catch and run perhaps the play of the year. Beyer's play featured a pair of tackle-breaking spin moves and effectively sealed the victory, giving the Purple Flash a 45-21 lead at the end of the third quarter. Lone Oak's defense did the job from there, holding Class 4A's best running team to only 83 yards on the ground in the second half. Lone Oak amassed 501 yards of total offense, and Starks went over 1,000 yards rushing for the season during the game. Lone Oak advances to play top-ranked Boyle County in the state finals on Dec. 4 in Bowling Green.
