Flash slays Dragons on way to 7-0 start

October 4, 2009
Lone Oak High School

Matt Starks ran for a career-high 120 yards and scored four touchdowns as Lone Oak amassed more than 200 yards both on the ground and in the air in a 52-20 victory over Green County Oct. 2 at Flash Field.

Starks scored on runs of 3, 11, 20 and 15 yards as the Purple Flash posted a 45-6 advantage by halftime. Lone Oak dominated the line of scrimmage both offensively and defensively, as the Flash gained 202 yards on the ground and held the sixth-ranked Class 2A Dragons, who entered the game averaging 352 yards rushing, to just 145 ground yards for the game and less than 40 in the first half.

Felix Colon and Carson Beyer each caught a touchdown pass during the first half, as quarterback Cameron Looper completed 14 of 25 passes for 228 yards. Tyler Presnell was second-half signal-caller and he completed 4 of 8 throws for 33 yards.

The reserves played the second half and added a finishing TD on Brice Wright's 6-yard run.

Kicker Jack Coorts added a 24-yard field goal and six extra-points. Coorts moved into sole possession of third place in extra-point kicks all-time in Kentucky and stands four away from second place with 197. He is 19 behind the state record.

The win marked the second time in its history that Lone Oak has started a season 7-0. The other time was 2007 when the Flash won their first 14 games on the way to a state finals berth.
