Dell's Invite Cut Short - Panthers Beat Chippewa Falls
April 13, 2014By Mark Dunnett of Lakeville North Softball
The Panthers traveled to The Wisconsin Dells Friday, for a chance to play 3 of the top teams in Wisconsin at the Wisconsin Dells Invitational. Lakeville was scheduled to play Chippewa Falls on Friday, and Stevens Point Area Senior High (SPASH) and Westosha Central (Defending WI State Champs) Saturday. Unfortunately the weather did not cooperate on Saturday (rain, hail, lightning, 40 degrees). The Panthers did play Friday night, beating Chippewa Falls 3-2.
The score was tied until the third inning, when Chippewa Falls scored twice on walks, taking a 2-0 lead. Lakeville North answered in the fourth inning, with Erika Rozelle and pinch runner Kia Brown scoring on Madison Malecha's fielder's choice. Malecha moved to third on Chloe Saholt's sacrifice bunt, and Maggie Dunnett singled to drive Malecha in for what was the winning run.
Dunnett went 2-3 at the plate with an RBI. Jess Meidl, Rozelle, Katie Parker, and Tera McKenney also had hits.
Micheala Zins pitched the first three innings, giving up 2 runs on 1 hit, with 7 walks and 6 strikeouts. Dunnett pitched the last four innings, shutting out the Cardinals, allowing 2 hits and 1 walk with eight strikeouts.
The Panthers are scheduled to play four games on the road this week, weather permitting. They are at Lakeville South Monday, Apple Valley Wednesday, Wayzata Thursday, and Eastview on Friday.
