FREE EKG TESTING AT LISLE HIGH SCHOOL APRIL 16
February 25, 2010By Dan Dillard of Lisle High School
The screening for all Lisle Senior High School students is scheduled for Friday, April 16, 2010. Students will be screened during their P. E. or Health Class. If your child does not have P. E. or Health in their schedule, they will be assigned a screening time during the day. All students whose parents authorize them to be tested will be screened.
A simple EKG, when used to screen physically active young persons, can detect certain serious heart conditions. Recording the electrical activity of the heart using electrodes attached to the skin with a mild adhesive can detect approximately 40% of the abnormalities or "markers" from heart conditions that are associated with sudden cardiac death that a stethoscope cannot detect. Please note that EKG screenings result in approximately 2% of the tests being falsely positive. This may require additional evaluation and testing by your physician. We believe that the benefit of this potentially life saving screening outweighs this concern.
Registration for Lisle students is underway, and we would like to have all completed forms in our office as soon as possible. It is preferred that you register your child online at www.mhcfoundation.org Click on the Young Hearts for Life text box in the upper left corner. If you do not have computer access, you or your child may pick up a form from the main office at Lisle Senior High School. If you have questions, please contact us at 630-310-2136.
