News from LHS Track and Field

March 10, 2013
By Charlotte Richardson of Lincoln High School

Dear Team and Families,
We are headed into our third week of Lincoln Track and Field.  The turnout has been phenomenal.  We have 200 athletes coming consistently to practice and the positive attitude and energy are contagious!  Thank you for your support to help make this team the biggest at Lincoln HS!  We have seniors, juniors, sophomores and freshman, male and female, varsity and JV, and athletes with every kind of talent.  They are fast, they are strong, they are agile and quick, they have incredible endurance, and springs in their legs. It is a mix of all shapes and sizes, and it is what makes a track and field team so special! We feel it is one of the very best Track and Field Teams Lincoln has ever fielded.

With such amazing numbers comes a huge challenge.  Uniforms.  We are beginning to hand out uniforms to seniors and varsity this coming ThursdayOn Fridaywe plan on getting the rest of the team outfitted.  I am apologizing upfront for our uniform situation and hoping by March 20th (our first official Metro League Meet) we will have the team mostly suited up and ready to go!! For those who have ordered uniforms pieces from Brand Athletics we are hoping the gear will arrive in time.  I will be keeping you updated and asking you to keep your fingers crossed that this happens.  If we are short the very first meet, it may be necessary for some athletes to wear their own black or red shorts. We have enough singlets and we have a good number of shorts.  In addition we have about 100 plus outer wear jackets and pants. We will give those out to the athletes who decided not to order gear this year.  Thank you for your understanding and patience with this.  This is new territory with the size of the team this year.

In addition we are asking athletes and parents to make sure all of the paperwork (blue card, physicals, Code of Conduct) and payments are in this week byMonday, March 11th.  Please do not hesitate to call me if there is any issues with payment.  Without all of the above done, we cannot hand out uniforms.

On Wednesday, this week, we will hold our annual Red and White Inter squad Meet.  This is the meet were we divide our team into 2 squads, combining male and female plus all abilities into a white team and a red team.  This year we are excited to have an opportunity to showcase for you our team as well as share soup and a bake sale after the meet.  Our meet and meal organizers are Jaleel Kindell, Val Banks, Mary Grout, Leslie Hwa, and Barbara McGillvary.  Here is the information they sent to me about the activities after the meet -
