If you prefer not to use this online tool, contact me directly. If the kitchen or takeout deli is not your style… I could use a volunteer or two to help for the evening. My info is below. There are also several restaurants that will gladly make a large sized salad or main dish for you to pick up and bring. Let them know they are supporting Lincoln Cross Country and maybe they will give you a discount!
This shared potluck is THE moment for parents and kids to gather together before school and x-country begin. Sign-up for the ever important e-mail/communication lifeline. Fuel your minds and bodies with delicious potluck items (seriously, this crew has a reputation)!
Parent Quote “ Make time for this meeting. It makes the entire season easier and more fun for your athlete and you. It can also help you to understand the sport and minimize surprises.”
SPECIAL BONUS: Olympians Adam and Kara Goucher will join us with their son Colt.
Things you need to know
Paperwork/Clearance – All athletes are required to complete either a Physical Clearance Form or an Update Clearance Form annually. A physical by a doctor is required every two years and the Physical Clearance Form is completed in those years. In alternate years the Update Clearance Form must be completed. In addition, a current blue card must be turned in for every sport. All paperwork is due by the first day of practice.
Fees – All athletes pay “pay to play” fees at Lincoln. These fees have increased this year, to $210, or $40 for students on free/reduced lunch. There is an annual limit of $420 per student (so, if a student plays three sports, there is no fee required for the third sport) and $830 per family. Of the $210, $200 goes to the PIL District Athletic office to pay for transportation, administration, coaches’ salaries, etc. Only $10 stays with the Lincoln Athletic office. Nothing goes to the cross country program. We are asking all XC afamilies to consider paying a slightly higher fee ($225-$240) as a donation. These extra funds will go towards our cross country expenses, including things lik ae uniforms and transportation to invitationals. Fees are due by Sept 5 (prior to uniform distribution), and we would hope to collect most fees at the team pot-luck/parent meeting on Aug 29.
Fundraising -- In addition to asking families to make a small donation with their athletic fees, the cross country team does fundraise annually by working at the Portland Marathon, and by attending our info night at Road Runner Sports (Sept 5, 7-8:30 pm). Athletes should plan on participating in both these events and parents are asked to join us at Road Runner Sports (we get a larger donation for parental attendance). Plus, it is a great opportunity to find out exactly what type of shoes your runner should be wearing!

Running Varsity – The varsity team in cross country consists of the top 7 runners for both boys and girls, with the top 5 runners scoring. Occasionally we will participate in races where we enter more than 7 runners in the varsity race. The top 7 runners will be determined weekly, based on performances in the races the week before. For the first meet of the season (Wilsonville), no one will run varsity – all races are by age group. The 7 fastest runners from that meet will earn their place on varsity for the next meet (Bill Chapman) and so on.
Uniform Distribution – Uniforms will be distributed on Sept 5 and 6, during practice. For the Wilsonville meet, runners are expected to wear their own singlet and shorts (preferably Lincoln colors, red and white). A white or red t-shirt is also fine instead of a singlet, and black or other dark shorts are OK if you don’t own red. Do not go out and buy any gear for this.
Team Captains – Will be selected on Thur, Sept 6. Four captains (2 boys and 2 girls) will be chosen by ballot. Only seniors and juniors are eligible and must have been on the team last season.
In addition, we do use email to communicate regularly. Also, Coach Parry’s cell phone (503-577-5759) is a good way to contact us in case of emergency, especially when we’re at a meet.
