The Moeller baseball team was ranked No. 17 nationally by the USA Today Super 25 rankings last week.
The Crusaders, who have won two straight Division I state titles, have had 18 consecutive winning seasons. Coach Tim Held has a 159-26 record to start this season.
“Everyone is very proud of the rankings, but we don’t dwell on them,” Held said. “We know we have a bull’s-eye on our back after how the last two seasons have ended, so the rankings just add to that. We also know that they are just preseason rankings and it’s more important to be ranked at the end of the year. I’m just happy to bring some attention to Cincinnati baseball.”
Moeller’s top returning players are infielder Riley Mahan (Kentucky signee), pitcher Gus Ragland (Miami University football signee), pitcher Nick Voss (UC signee), pitcher Zach Logue (Kentucky signee) and junior Josh Hollander (Kent State verbal commit).
“The players seem very focused on getting better and there isn’t much talk of repeating,” Held said. “This group seems very driven.”
Moeller opens the season March 29 against Lakewood St. Edward (12:30 p.m.) and Cleveland St. Ignatius (3:30 p.m.) in Chillicothe.
