Coach calls Moeller as Good as He's Led
The Moeller basketball team was ranked No. 1 in the season’s final Associated Press Division I state final poll on Monday night.
On Tuesday afternoon, the Crusaders garnered the No. 1 ranking in The Enquirer Division I area coaches’ poll.
Moeller coach Carl Kremer told The Enquirer on Wednesday afternoon that he doesn’t think any other Moeller basketball team has had a better regular season since he has been the head coach starting in the 1990-91 season.
“I am really proud of this group,” Kremer said.
Moeller (19-1) had practice Wednesday to prepare for the sectional tournament after taking three days off. Kremer wants plenty of energy heading into Friday’s sectional tournament game against Ross at 6 p.m. at Lakota West.
The Crusaders captured their first one-loss regular season since the 2007-08 season. Moeller’s only loss this season was to Providence (Jacksonville, Fla.), 60-56 on Dec. 28. Moeller has won 13 consecutive games.
“We want the mindset that we are the hunter, not the hunted,” Kremer said.
Senior guard Grant Benzinger (Wright State signee) averages 17.0 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.2 assists for Moeller. Junior center Nate Fowler averages 12.6 points, 10.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists. Senior forward Jack Anton averages 10.5 points and 5.4 rebounds.
