2014 District Swimming/Diving Championships
The coaches, athletes, parents and members of the 2014 swim team battled the elements last Friday evening and claimed the school’s fifth District Runner-Up trophy. The Division 1 teams in the state’s other three Districts did not hold their meets until Saturday.
At the time that this article is being prepared we can at least state unequivocally that eight athletes will be traveling to Canton, Ohio to compete in the State Championships next Friday & Saturday.
Sophomore Cooper Hodge was crowned as the District Champion in both the 200yd. Individual Medley and the 100yd. Breaststroke, as well as the 200yd. Medley Relay. He will also be joining teammates Kevin George, Greg Nymberg and Noah Worobetz in the 400yd. Freestyle Relay which finished second. Cooper’s time in the Breaststroke (57.21) is a ‘new’ Moeller record. Greg Nymberg placed second in the 100yd. Butterfly and lowered his own school record to (49.80) seconds. Sophomore Jacob Peloquin will join Greg in that specialty at State. Noah Worobetz and Jacob Peloquin finished second and third respectively in the 100yd. Backstroke event and will compete two more times in Canton. Kevin George (200free, 500Free) and Fritz Josephson (500Free) will both be counted on to add valuable team points as the Crusaders seek to nail down the first-ever State Runner-Up trophy in the school’s history.
In addition to the Medley, both the 200yd. and 400yd. Freestyle Relays, whose members include Peloquin, Hodge, Kevin George, Kyle Smith, Noah and Tory Worobetz are also ‘automatically qualified’ on to State.
