Moeller Swimming Has Great Success at Classic
January 20, 2014Cincinnati Moeller High School
2014 Southwest District Swimming/Diving Classic
The Archbishop Moeller Swim team captured the school’s third Runner-Up trophy in the history of the event. This two-day activity is the largest Swimming & Diving Championship in the entire nation. Well over one hundred schools participate in morning preliminaries and evening finals on both Saturday, Sunday.
A dozen Crusader athletes performed well enough in the prelims to earn the right to perform in the finals. Sophomore Cooper Hodge led the effort with five first-place finishes, one second place and a fourth. Senior captain Greg Nymberg turned in two-firsts, two seconds, a third, a fourth and a seventh. Other team-mates, who contributed to first place finishes, were Tory Worobetz, Kevin George, Noah Worobetz and Jacob Peloquin.
Rounding out the list of swimmers earning points were seniors Chris Asgian, Fritz Josephson, Sean Schwab, junior Ben Love and freshmen Sebastian Fabik and Austin Theobold.
Special note should be made of the fact that Cooper set two ‘new’ meet records and narrowly missed a third by less than 0.20 seconds. To point up the significance of this achievement, this meet has been in existence for sixteen seasons and has featured a great number of athletes, who went on to compete successfully in the NCAA Championships and in the Olympics.
Please congratulate all of these young men and their team-mates.
