Crusaders Defeat the Lancers
The Moeller JV A opened league play today with a home match against the LaSalle Lancers. GCL play is always entertaining. Both teams had scoring opportunities with the first goal coming in the 11th minute. LaSalle took a shot from 20 yards that was driven low and Moeller's goalkeeper was not able handle it making the score 1-0 LaSalle. The rest of the 1st half Moeller kept most of the play in LasSalle's defensive third. In the 27th minute Moeller strung together several passes starting from the back line ending with a diagonal ball to Ben Pillar. The ball was tackled away, but John Myer was there to clean up the mess and finish with a goal into the top netting from 19 yards. The half finished with the scored tied 1-1.
In the second half Moeller was focused on playing quicker and committing to their runs. In the 45th minute Mick Hamilton made a strong run down the right flank drawing defenders and leaving space in the middle. A through ball was played a bit too long and the LaSalle goalkeeper came off his line to take the ball. The ball was bobbled and Mick Hamilton was able to make LaSalle pay for the mistake. He quickly took a touch around the goalkeeper and one defender before passing the ball into the open net. The next 20 minutes Moeller had the momentum and created several quality scoring chances. Unfortunately they could not put any more into the goal. In the last few minutes LaSalle pushed forward with energy. Moeller dealt with the attack winning balls in the box and getting one timely save by the goalpost.
The game finished Moeller 2 - LaSalle 1.
