MOELLER WRESTLING UPDATE 2-3-2013

WRESTLERS WIN 11TH G.C.L. TITLE IN A ROW

The Varsity wrestlers continued their dominance of the G.C.L. winning their 11^TH consecutive title and the 20^TH in the past 21 years.  The team set a record winning 11 of the 14 weight classes.  Winning individual titles were Dean Meyer (his third in a row), Conner Ziegler, Jacoby Ward, Connor Borton, Andrew Mendel, Wyatt Wilson, Dakota Sizemore, Quinton Rosser, Jerry Thornberry, Chalmer Frueauf, and Max Swoboda.  Johnathan Tallarigo placed 2^ND and Will Kruspe placed 3^RD.   Congratulations to Junior Chalmer Frueauf who was selected as the “GCL Wrestler of the Year”.  For complete results, go to:  Varsity GCL Results

The JV Wrestlers placed 2^ND in the G.C.L., falling short of Elder.  Winning titles were Austin Wesley, Campbell Morton, Jack Meyer and Will Smallwood.  Other place winners were:  Eddy Pappalardo (2^ND), AJ Reinhart (2^ND), Ian Williams (2^ND), Evan Horst (2^ND), Zak Rahe (3^RD), Boston Edgar (3^RD), Shane Wever (4^TH), and Brandon Cottrell (4^TH).  For complete results, go to:  JV GCL Results

The Freshman Wrestlers won the G.C.L.  on the strength of 7 champions.  Winning titles Cooper Graves (98), Ashten Lynch (103), Jaelen Summerours (112), Danny MacVeigh (140), Brady Porter (152), Kaevon Salehpour (189) and Joe Hensley (Hwt).  Other place winners were: Joey Burns (2^ND), Jack Newbanks (2^ND), Brad Packer (2^ND), Ryan Gehringer (3^RD), and Chandler Dixon (3^RD).  For complete results, go to:  Frosh GCL Results

TEAM MASS ON TUESDAY, FEB. 5 AT 7:15am

All wrestlers and their families are invited to the Tuesday morning Mass on Feb. 5 at 7:15am in the school chapel.   Varsity wrestlers should be in attendance. 

REGIONAL FINALS: MOELLER v. ST. XAVIER ON WEDNESDAY AT MOELLER

The wrestlers will attempt to advance to Columbus on Wednesday night at Moeller as they battle St. Xavier in the regional finals.  The match will begin at 7PM in the Moeller gym.  The winner will advance to Ohio State’s St. John Area on Saturday for the State Team Championships.  Weigh ins are at 6pm

TEAM STATE FINALS: SATURDAY, FEB. 9 AT ST. JOHN ARENA (OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY)

With a victory on Wednesday, the Crusaders will advance to the State Final 8.  The team travel schedule will be as follows:

Friday, Feb. 8:

-          Practice (at Moeller) 3pm-4:30pm

-          7pm Leave for Columbus hotel by school vans (note: Wrestlers should eat dinner before departing)

-          8:30pm Arrive at Hampton Inn –Columbus South

-          9:30pm Team Meeting / prayer Service

-          11pm lights out

Saturday, Feb. 9

-          7am Wakeup

-          7:30am leave for St. John Arena

-          9am Weigh ins (light meal after weighins)

-          11am/1:15pm Quarterfinals  (light meal between matches)

-          3:30pm Semifinals (team meal after semifinals if we win)

-          8pm Finals

The travel roster will be determined after Wednesday’s dual.

END OF YEAR REQUIREMENTS FOR FROSH / JV

Required practices for the freshmen and JV wrestlers have ended unless you have been asked to stay as one of the varsity back-ups who will be weighing in for the state duals tournament.  Please note that ALL wrestlers are encouraged to continue practicing with the team until the individual state tournament is finished on March 1.  The next few weeks are an excellent time to improve your skills for next season. 

All wrestlers will be required to help with the JH District Wrestling Tournament to be held at Moeller on Sunday, Feb. 17.  Please check with Coach Hill for your assigned shift. 

All wrestlers are required to attend the Moeller Wrestling Awards Banquet which will be held on Monday, March 11 at Receptions in Loveland.  The Banquet flyer will be distributed to families this week.

VOLUNTEER SIGN-UPS FOR THE JH DISTRICT TOURNANMENT ON SUNDAY, FEB. 17

Each family is asked to help work one shift at the JH District Wrestling Tournament to be held on Sunday, Feb. 17TH.  The online registration is now available.  To sign up, please go to:
