Home » Wrestling NewsMoeller Wrestling UpdateJanuary 22, 2013 Cincinnati Moeller High SchoolFrom Jeff Gaier, Head Wrestling Coach: MOELLER WRESTLING UPDATE 1-22-2013 VARSITY WRESTLERS WIN OHIO ALL-CATHOLIC For the eighth time in the past nine years, the Varsity wrestlers have won the Ohio All-Catholic Tournament. Moeller outdistanced second place Toledo Central Catholic by over 90 points. Winning individual titles were Conner Ziegler (113), Andrew Mendel (132), Dean Meyer (160), Dakota Sizemore (170), Quinton Rosser (182), and Chalmer Frueauf (220). Other place winners were Wyatt Wilson (2nd), Jerry Thornberry (3rd), Max Swoboda (3rd), Connor Borton (4th) and Johnathan Tallarigo (6th). For full results, go to: Ohio All-Catholic. The Varsity opens up the State Dual meet tournament at home on Wednesday night, then will take on nationally ranked Detroit Catholic Central at home on Saturday (2pm). Saturday’s dual with DCC will be “Senior Night”. VARSITY “B” WRESTLERS FINISHED SECOND AT THE INDIAN LAKE TOURNAMENT The Varsity “B” wrestlers had another strong showing finishing 2nd in the highly rated Indian Lake Tournament. Brining home individual titles were Jaelen Summerours (106), Jack Meyer (182), William Smallwood (195) and Joe Hensley (220). Other place winners were Danny MacVeigh (2nd), Ryan Hankins (2nd), Campbell Morton (3rd), and Andrew Buschbacher (3rd). FROSH / JV RESULTS The Freshmen and JV wrestling teams competed with shorthanded teams this past weekend at Elder and at Purcell. Placing at the Purcell Reserve Tournament were Joe Pappalardo (3rd) and Eddy Pappalardo (4th). Winning multiple matches at Purcell were Chandler Dixon and Brad Packer. The Frosh and JV will wrestle Ryle on Thursday night in the wrestling room beginning at 6pm. HELP NEEDED WITH CONCESSIONS THIS WEEK We are in need of 1 or 2 parents to help Julie Hawkins with concessions this week on Wednesday (4:30-6pm and 6pm-8pm) and on Saturday (12pm-3pm). If you can help, please contact Julie Hawkins (julie@stgregory.com). SPORTSLEADER THIS WEEK: TENACITY IN LIFE This past week we talked about tenacity in life. Few of us will face a disease like Mike Powell, but our faith will be tested by the relentless pressures and temptation of society. We also looked at how wrestlers and Christian martyrs are similarly tenacious. There is an ongoing fight for the hearts and minds of America’s young men. We appreciate your support. COMMUNITY SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES The CYW City Tournament is Sunday, Feb. 10 this year at Harrison High School. The Moeller Kids Club is responsible for running a table in the afternoon session (check-in 12:30pm, wrestling 1:00pm). Coach Walsh is in need of 4 wrestlers to run a table. The workers will be responsible for refereeing, keeping scoreboard and bout sheets, and managing the clock. A Kids Club parent at the table with the volunteers to help run the table and to step in if parents or coaches get out of hand. You will be there for approximately 3 to 4 hours. This time will count as service hours. If interested, please contact Coach Walsh (michael.walsh@siemens.com or moekidsclub@yahoo.com). The first 4 who volunteer will get the opportunity. Only one wrestler needs to be comfortable refereeing. Cincinnati Center for Autism – we are in the process of scheduling volunteer work at CCA. Those interested must complete the volunteer application forms and turn them in to Coach Gaier. The forms can be found at: Form 1, Form 2, Form 3 STATE DUAL MEET TOURNAMENT STARTS ON WEDNESDAY AT HOME Moeller opens up their run for a state wrestling title with the opening round of the regional tournament on Wednesday in the Moeller gym. The Crusaders are the #1 seed in the region and will wrestle the winner of the Turpin-Walnut Hills match at approximately 7:30pm. The tournament schedule is as follows: Wed. Jan. 23 – Regional Quarterfinals (at Moeller) 6pm: Round 1, Mat 1 Turpin v. Walnut Hills; Mat 2 Anderson v. Glen Este ~7:30pm: Round 2, Mat 1 Moeller v. Turpin/Walnut Hills winner Wed. Jan. 30 – Regional Semifinals (site: TBA) Wed. Feb. 6 – Regional Finals (Region 8a winner v. Region 8b winner) @ 7pm Sat. Feb. 9 – State Finals (in Columbus)
