Home » Wrestling NewsMoeller Wrestling UpdateJanuary 14, 2013 Cincinnati Moeller High SchoolFrom Jeff Gaier, Wrestling Head Coach: MOELLER WRESTLING UPDATE 1-14-13 VARSITY WRESTLERS KNOCK OFF #5 ELDER The Varsity wrestlers continued their dual meet dominance over local competition in handling Elder 45-6 this past Friday in the gym. Moeller won 12 of 14 individual matches. Leading the Crusaders with pins were Andrew Mendel, Dakota Sizemore and Chalmer Frueauf. Other winners: Will Kruspe, Andrew Buschbacher, Conner Ziegler, Jacoby Ward, Johnathan Tallarigo, Austin Bohenek, Campbell Morton, Dean Meyer, and Quinton Rosser. The Varsity travels to Columbus to wrestle in the Ohio All-Catholic tournament this Saturday and Sunday. JV DROPS MATCH TO ELDER BUT WINS BEN LOGAN TOURNAMENT The JV wrestling team had a rough start to the weekend in losing to Elder 51-18, but rebounded to win the 14 team Ben Logan Tournament. Wrestlers with wins over Elder: Will Smallwood, Joe Pappalardo, and AJ Reinhart. In winning the Ben Logan Tournament, Moeller had four champions: AJ Reinhart, Boston Edgar, John Barnaclo, and William Smallwood. Other placers were Joe Pappalardo (2nd), Ian Williams (2nd), and Shane Wever (3rd). The Varsity “B” team will compete in the Indian Lake Tournament on Saturday. A JV squad will also compete this weekend at the Purcell Tournament on Friday and Saturday. FRESHMEN FINISH 3RD AT CENTERVILLE TOURNAMENT The Freshmen wrestling team competed in the 20 team Centerville Buckeye Tournament this past weekend finishing 3rd behind St. Edward and Mason. Moeller was led by 5 individual champions: Cooper Graves, Danny MacVeigh, Brady Porter, Jack Meyer, and Joe Hensley. The freshmen will compete in the Elder Duals on Saturday. SPORTSLEADER THIS WEEK: TENACITY This week’s prayer services focused on the how tenacity in wrestling means being unbreakable and aggressive. We looked at a quote from Dan Gable and some videos of Gable and Iowa wrestling. Coaches also shared matches that exemplified the virtue of tenacity. SPIRIT T-SHIRTS FOR STATE DUALS Alex Frueauf is having some t-shirts made (link to design) to show some spirit during the state duals and state individual tournaments. The shirts will have "Moeller Wrestling" in blue lettering with the fighting crusader in the middle, then on the back it will have the Marianist cross in the middle of the neck. The shirts are Gildan, 100% cotton, gold colored (bright yellow-the color is shown on the attachment), and long sleeved. They are $15 each. They will be completed within 7 to 10 days of the time the order is placed. They should be ready for the first round of the dual tournament (definitely for the second round). Sizes available are Adult Small, Medium, Large, X Large, XX Large, and XXX Large. If interested please send a note to Alex @ afrueauf@middletowncityschools.com. NEXT WRESTLING PARENT/BOOSTER MEETING – TUESDAY, JAN. 15 IN THE LIBRARY The next Moeller Wrestling Parent/Booster meeting will be Tuesday, Jan. 15 in the Moeller library at 6:30pm. Items to discuss will be the upcoming team schedule, end of year information (including banquet), and the JH District Tournament.
