51st Annual Turkey Bowl

Thanksgiving Day

9:30am

Moeller High School

St Nicks (St Johns)  vs Golden Bears

This year will mark the 51st Annual Turkey Bowl played between the St Nicks Knights (formally St Johns) and the Golden Bears. This event has been traditionally played on Thanksgiving morning at Deer Park High School. However this year the Deer Park school board voted that it was not a Deer Park tradition and therefore they would not allow the game to be played on their field. But as with every strong tradition the Turkey Bowl lives on just at a new venue.

The one and only Cincinnati Archbishop Moeller High School! Moeller and M-Fan have graciously allowed the game to be played on the Mike Stofko Memorial Field on the Moeller Campus. Moeller also opened their doors and allowed the Turkey Bowl committee to use the cafeteria for the annual weigh in between both programs playing in the game.

This year's event was a success capped off with the legendary Bob Crable as the featured guest speaker. As a Moeller Alum (Two State titles, National Champs and 4 years undefeated record at Moe, Notre Dame captain, All American and record holder, 1st round draft pick (23rd) and 7 year NFL veteran of the New York Jets, Coach Crables insight and encouraging words were very fitting for this years game as we embark on our new tradition at Moeller.

There are very few traditions like this one. The events of the game start off the annual Turkey Bowl reunion party. This year held at St Nicholas campus. This event is a great opportunity for both programs, alumni and friends to come together and enjoy a night of fun celebrating our faith and the traditions of the game.

The next event is the annual weigh in luncheon. Then both teams have a team bon-fire (Bears at Reading Field, Knights at OLSH in Reading). The bon fire is a cherished family event at which players/parents exchange letters of what each mean to each other. The day off the Turkey Bowl starts with teams masses, breakfast and then each player and his family are announced at the game and walk hand in hand on to the field.

Then of course the game! This year the Golden Bears are the Division 1 GCYL City Champs! The Knights lost in the division 1 city quarter finals and are looking for redemption at the Turkey Bowl! The winner of the game is then presented with the Turkey Bowl Trophy.

Let the Turkey Bowl Begin!
