MOELLER WRESTLING UPDATE 3-5-12

JOEY WARD REPEATS AS STATE CHAMPION!

Congratulations to senior Joey Ward who won his second state wrestling championship this past Saturday defeating Edgar Bright of St. Edward 2-1.  Joey was also named the state tournament’s Outstanding Wrestler.  He finishes the season with a 47-3 record. CRUSADERS FINISH 3^RD AT STATE – SIZEMORE, FRUEAUF AND ZIEGLER PLACE

Behind the strength of Joey Ward’s state title and three other state placers, the Crusader wrestling team finished 3^rd in the state tournament behind nationally ranked St. Edward (2^nd nationally) and Massillon Perry (25^th nationally).    Place winners for Moeller were sophomores Dakota Sizemore (3^rd at 152 lbs.), Chalmer Frueauf (4^th at 220 lbs.) and senior Tyler Ziegler (6^th at 126 lbs.).  For complete results:  State Results, State Brackets.  Other Crusaders who competed but fell short of placement: Senior Michael Blum, freshman Conner Ziegler and sophomores Dean Meyer and Quinton Rosser.

WRESTLING BANQUET – MONDAY MARCH 12 – Please RSVP!

There are still a couple of families who need to RSVP for the year-end wrestling awards banquet.  The banquet is scheduled for Monday, March 12 at Receptions in Loveland from 6 PM – 10 PM. SENIOR ALL-STAR MEET – WEDNESDAY, MARCH 14

Seniors Joey Ward, Tyler Ziegler and Michael Blum have been selected to wrestle in the SWOWCA Senior All-Star Meet to be held on Wednesday, March 14 at Sycamore High School.  Tickets can be purchased from Joey, Tyler or Michael for $5.

NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY – JOE PAPPALARDO AND CAMPBELL MORTON

Sophomores Joe Pappalardo and Campbell Morton were selected to the National Honor Society this past week.  Congratulations Joe and Campbell!

PIERCE HARGER QUALIFIES FOR NCAA TOURNAMENT!

Congratulations to Pierce Harger (’10) of Northwestern, who qualified for the NCAA Tournament this past weekend at the Big 10 Championships.  Pierce placed 6^th in the 165 lb. weight class.  Pierce is Moeller’s fourth wrestling alum who has qualified for the NCAA tournament.  Josh Janson (‘97) Ohio State, Germane Lindsey (’07) Ohio University and Eric Cameron (’06) Indiana University qualified during their college careers.  Lindsey has the highest finish and All-American status (6^th in 2010). 

Eric Gobin (’08) of Army and Drew Hammer (’10) of Ohio University fell short in their bid to qualify this year.  Eric went 1-2 at 174 lbs. in the EIWA Championships.  Drew went 0-2 at the MAC Championships at 133 lbs.

VARSITY SINGLETS / LOCKER ROOM

Varsity wrestlers should turn in their singlets on Tuesday after school in the locker room.  Note: the locker room will be cleaned out on Tuesday.  All lockers should be cleared out by 3 PM on Tuesday.
