Jon Smith becomes the first Blue Raider to earn the honor.
COLUMBIA, Ky. -- Lindsey Wilson College sophomore Jon Smith has been selected as a member of the 2011 All Commonwealth Collegiate Team, the Kentucky Chapter of the National Football League Alumni announced this week.
Smith is one of 44 student-athletes selected from 17 colleges -- regardless of the division -- across Kentucky. Eleven of the 44 student-athletes are from NAIA programs.
Smith and the rest of the All Commonwealth Collegiate Team will be honored at the Kentucky Pro Football Hall of Fame induction ceremony in Louisville, Ky. on Friday, June 15.
The selection committee included representatives from the Kentucky NFL Alumni and Kentucky media.
Smith earned the distinction of being the very first permanent captain in Lindsey Wilson College football history. He earned honorable mention All Mid-South Conference honors in 2010 and first-team all-conference honors in 2011 as an offensive lineman.
In 2011, Smith anchored an offensive line that allowed just 23 sacks during the season while finishing fifth in the NAIA averaging 285.8 passing yards per game.
Smith is the first Blue Raider to be selected to the team.
Lindsey Wilson finished its second season in 2011 with a 7-3 overall record.
