Graduation losses, shift to 2A pose challenges for Central Catholic

The 2012 area football season ended with a familiar finale, as Central Catholic celebrated its fourth straight Class A state championship.

Can the Knights get back to Lucas Oil Stadium, and can another area program make its own deep state tournament run? Here’s a look at what some area teams can expect in 2013.

One for the thumb?

Central Catholic faces several challenges in its quest to win a fifth straight state championship. The Knights lose 15 championship game starting spots to graduation, including leading rusher Brad Schrader, leading receiver Timmy Mills and leading tacklers Ross Corcoran and Sam Kochert.

Central Catholic will also play in the Class 2A state tournament for at least the next two seasons due to the IHSAA’s Tournament Success Factor. Among those returning are quarterback Ty Preston, cornerback/wingback Joe Smith and defensive ends Grant Vogt and Tyler Schrader.
