LAMAR— Matthew Hartshorn of the Lamar FFA Chapter won first place in the District Creed Speaking Contest. Hartshorn will receive a plaque and a medal at the District Banquet in recognition of his accomplishment. In addition, he will represent District 7 in the state competition during the 85th Colorado FFA Convention in June in Sterling, Colorado where he will compete for the state title and the opportunity to compete at the national level. The FFA Creed Speaking Career Development Event is open to students in grades seven through nine. Participants are required to recite the five-paragraph FFA Creed from memory. A panel of judges asks each speaker a series of questions based on their interpretation of the creed. As they participate in this event, FFA members gain self-confidence, poise and presentation skills while increasing their ability to think on their feet. The creed speaking event is one of 24 career development events held at the local, state and national levels. Career development events make learning fun by helping students apply concepts learned in their agriculture classes to real-life scenarios. These events are one of many ways FFA prepares student members for career success. FFA is an integral part of the Agricultural Education Division within the Colorado Community College System. The Colorado FFA Association currently stands with more than 4,700 members. The FFA mission is to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education. Acacia Murdock 3rd Place in District FFA Creed Speaking Event
LAMAR—Acacia Murdock of the LamarFFA Chapter won third place in the District Creed Speaking Contest at the District 7 FFA Creed Contest on October 10.
