Member Competes in Heifer Wrangle at Colorado State Fair

October 10, 2012
Lamar High School

Heifer Wrangle is a program through the FFA that allows students wanting to work with and further their Supervised Agricultural Experience with cattle. Students must attend National Western Stock Show and catch a calf during the Heifer Wrangle and then they are rewarded with a $1,000 voucher to go purchase the heifer of their choice to show at the Colorado State Fair the same year. Theresa Butler, sponsored by Rocky Mountain Farmer’s Union, caught a calf at NWSS this previous year and participated at the Heifer Wrangle Show August 27 at the State Fair. She purchased her Registered Angus heifer from Sunset Angus Farms in Balko, Oklahoma. At State Fair Butler placed 2nd in showmanship and 5th in live placing. With combined scores from showmanship and live placing, she won the Reserve Champion Heifer Wrangle buckle. In the Jr. Open Breeding, she placed 3rd in showmanship and 3rd in live placing. The Overall Heifer Wrangle awards will be presented at State FFA Convention this June in Sterling with the combined scores from showmanship, live placing, record book, scrapbook, and sponsor letters.
