Home » Football NewsSweep of Cross-town Rivals!October 13, 2011 Lakeville North FootballThe Lakeville North Panther Sophomores completed a tenth grade sweep of the South Cougars last week, running North's record to 6-0 on Thursdays and 4-0-1 on Fridays. Thursday's game was a barn burner, as North took an early lead on a nifty connection between Zach Beier and Lee Edwards. Stuart Hamman kicked the extra point, which would be the game-winner. Because of the wind-swept concrete field, the Cougars and Panthers played a battle of field position, with North gaining the edge on the ground; however, multiple drives were cut short inside Cougar territory, allowing South a final drive...but the Panther defense provided the heroics once again as they crushed a South comeback with a big sack on fourth and long.
The Friday game was decided early, as the North offense had its way throwing and running the ball. Justin Greene, Eric Murphy, Joe Crocco, Riley Mix, and Zakk Kleinfeldt saw action running through and around big blocks by the Panther O-line. Other than a long trap run on South's first drive, the defense was stout. By the end of the game, every North player had played defensive end.
This week the Panthers travel to Kennedy in hopes of continuing a special season.
