Lakerdige Hires Dane Walker as new Head Boys Basketball Coach
May 18, 2010
By Ian Lamont of Lakeridge High School Most recently, Coach Walker has been the head boys basketball coach at Canby High School, where his teams won four consecutive Pacific Conference championships (2003-08), and seven consecutive state playoff appearances (2002-09).
An alumnus of Lakeridge High School (1988), Coach Walker was also an assistant coach for the Lakeridge boys basketball team from 1991-2001. As a student, Coach Walker played on the 1987 Pacer state championship football team for Coach Tom Smythe, who returned last year to lead the Lakeridge football program. The return of Coach Walker to Lakeridge is another example of Lakeridge’s efforts to bring home the Pacers’ legacy as a strong competitor in 6A sports.
“We are delighted to be welcoming Dane back to Lakeridge,” said Lakeridge Athletic Director Ian Lamont, “and we know he is looking forward to coming home. His history with our program, both as a student and an assistant coach, makes him a great fit for our athletes and our community. Coach Walker’s reputation extends not only to his coaching abilities, but also to his integrity, fairness, and desire to be a strong and positive role model for his players.”
The administration will recommend that the school board approve this appointment at its next meeting on Monday, May 24.
