Pacer girls battle tough opponents
January 30, 2014Lakeridge High School
The Lakeridge girls basketball team never gave in last week against West Linn. Despite falling behind early, Lakeridge outscored the Lions in the second half in a 59-38 defeat on the road.
Turnovers hindered the Pacers early. Lakeridge committed 11 in the first quarter alone and the Lions capitalized, knocking down their first four shots from the field, all from close range, and building an early lead.
Lakeridge trailed 13-5 after the opening quarter but managed to cut back on the mistakes in the second period.
Natalie Bristol was a spark for the Pacers all night. She scored the team's first seven points and had 12 of its 16 first-half points.
West Linn started to heat up on offense though and Lakeridge struggled to contain the Lions. West Linn held a significant advantage on the boards in the game but Maddie Rabing did a nice job battling in the paint.
Lakeridge trailed 38-16 at the half and the Lions continued to exploit their advantage inside early in the third quarter.
However, the Pacers battled hard until the final whistle. Lakeridge only gave up five points to West Linn in the final quarter and forced eight turnovers, cutting into the final deficit.
Bristol finished with a game-high 19 points.
Lakeridge had less luck Tuesday against Canby. The Cougars' press was a nightmare to contend with and Canby put things away early in an 84-30 victory.
Shea Northfield led Lakeridge with 10 points.
The Pacers will now face Clackamas Friday at 6 p.m.
