LAKERIDGE SKI TEAM SUCCESS AT CATO RACE ON 1/4
January 17, 2014By Sheri Richards of Lakeridge High School
Despite less than ideal conditions, the Lakeridge Ski Team secured impressive finish times in the Cato Memorial Race on Saturday, January 4. Utilizing only two of the Timberline runs instead of three, the boy’s varsity team took the third overall spot with senior Jack Benziger grabbing fourth place for individual boys varsity times. Equally impressive, girls varsity skier Maddie Lawhead took fourth place for individual girls while junior varisty skier Kodiak Berkoff blasted down the run to grab the second place in individual JV boys. The largest high school race in the country, approximate 400 athletes took place in this annual race that honors the life of former high school ski racer Christine Cato who died in a tragic accident 24 years ago at Timberline. This was a non-league race so times do not count toward the official high school standing.
