Event planned for the LHS auditorium
A celebration of Reed Garrison’s life will be held Friday, Nov. 23, at 11 a.m. at the Lakeridge High School auditorium.
He was affectionately known as “Mr. Pacer.”
“For nearly 25 years, Garrison was at home with his family at Lakeridge High School. As the equipment manager for the athletic department, he befriended just about everyone and joyfully did his job for the students,” said Sandi Swinford, Alum Parent Lakeridge High School
Garrison died in August at the age of 94 and all of his students, family and friends are invited to attend the celebration.
“We hope that by holding this over Thanksgiving, many of his students will be able to attend,” Swinford said. “We loved that Reed was always there. He watched and saw, listened, cared, encouraged and was always willing to lend a hand. From 1987 until his death, Reed’s life was caring about the students, faculty, parents and coaches. In a world where we are dashing from one event to the next and multi-tasking, Reed was there for kids. He had a twinkle in his eye, and a ready smile to share. It was easy for kids to approach him. For many, he is their grandfather figure.”
She added that “Reed’s wish was that any memoriam in his name be given to Lakeridge High School to help fund the Reed Garrison ‘Big Guy’ scholarship established in 2010. Award recipients exemplify the traits of perseverance, selflessness, quality of character, a thriving Pacer spirit.
