Ski Bowl Reynolds Giant Slalom 1/29/12

Ski Bowl Reynolds and Dogleg GS Races:  Saturday the Varsity Pacer Racers got to race on the World Cup rated Reynolds Run.  Over a thousand meters long it is the longest race of the season and requires both skill and nerve with two steep icy pitches and a long rolling run out.  And wouldn’t you know it, Freshman Maddie Lawhead carved it up to get the second fastest time in both of the Girl’s two runs to place second overall again this week. With the help of Lauren McIver (14^th), and Freshman Nicole Humphries (16^th), the girls moved up to second this week using times from the three for both runs.

                    The boys race saw Senior Captain Michael Conan rip his way to his first top ten finish of the season, coming in ninth overall.  Jack Benziger (12^th) also contributed team times for both runs helped out by Marshall Trautman (22^nd) in the first run and Riley Shearer in the second.  The boys took 3^rd for the race a few seconds behind Lincoln but held on to second overall at the half way point in the season. 

                    The JV skiers raced the shorter Dogleg course also at Ski Bowl.  The Girls JV team took second with Tai Stangeland, Malin Svalling and Lizzie Aronson finishing third, fourth and fifth.   The boy’s JV team took second as well led by Captain Bryan Hungerford (4^th) – helped by Tyler Moncrief (6^th) and Michael Ashworth (9^th).  As always, complete race results can be found at www.ski3rivers.org.

2.  Mt. Hood Combined High School Freestyle League:  The first freestyle event of the season was held Friday night at Mt. Hood Meadows – a judged rail jam in the Shipyard terrain park.  The Lakeridge Ski Team “FreeStyle Squadron” sent seven members to attack the four judged rail features and they all returned from action with no MIA or KIA.  It was a good night for Michaels with Michael Conan taking third place and Michael Ashworth taking sixth out of almost 50 competitors.

 3.  Saturday GS Race and FreeStyle Comp at Meadows:  The next league race is scheduled for Middle Fork at Mt. Hood Meadows on 2/4/12.  After the race the FreeStyle Squadron is scheduled to compete in the first Slope Style competition of the MHCHSFL season.
