Ski Team Competes in Christine Cato Memorial Cup
January 9, 2012
Lakeridge High SchoolArrrrrg – what a great weekend - Lakeridge competed in the 2012 Christine Cato Memorial Ski Cup Saturday, 1/7/12: a race in memory of Christine Cato who was a member of the Beaverton High School Ski Team that died in an accident on the mountain in 1989, just before her senior year. She loved the mountain and the fun team parts of ski racing. The Cato Cup is said to be the largest high school race in the country with over 400 high school racers participating from 25 high schools in Northern Oregon. The Lakeridge Ski Team took team spirit to a new level Saturday becoming the fist repeat winner of the spirit award with a PIRATE THEME (see pictures). The air at Timberline was filled with the sounds of sword fighting, challenges from chair lifts and general good spirited fun. The highlight may have been the group skiing down to the race start while holding the cardboard pirate ship Scallywagon around them.
They also skied well earning third place team medals for Boy’s Varsity led by Riley Shearer (4th), Michael Conan (19th) and Jack Benziger (28th), and Girls JV led by Emily Harrell (7th), Malin Svalling (13th) and Nicole Humphries (17th). The Girl’s Varsity team took eighth led by Lauren McIver (23rd), Colleen Rooney (31st) and Evan Heath (49th) and the boys JV team took fourth led by Christian Andersen (10th), Andrew Carlson (17th) and Tyler Moncrief (18th).
Next up for the Pacer ski team is a Saturday, 1/14/12 Giant Slalom Race at Mt. Hood Meadows.
