As time clicked down during Tuesday's game against Heard County, sophomore guard Steara Mitchell fielded an inbounds pass, dribbled to half court and tossed up a prayer. The ball careened off of the backboard glass and into the basket, giving the Lady Grangers an added exclamation point to their 65-44 win. The win gives the Lady Grangers a 4-1 record heading into their matchup on Monday against Callaway at Philips Arena. The Lady Braves fell to 1-6. "We came out and played really well I thought," LaGrange head coach Jan Jones said. "Toward the end though we kind of fell back into our old bad habits. We just were dribbling too much and not moving the ball like we have been." With Mitchell leading the way, the Lady Grangers built a 37-18 lead heading into the half. Mitchell had a team-high 16 points. "Steara came out and did extremely well for us tonight," Jones said. "She hit a lot of open outside shots for us, which was a big key in the beginning of the game. In the third and forth quarter we just couldn't hit anything." Post player Arneshia Williams scored 13 points for LaGrange, and Terryuana Godwin and Brittany Tatum had 11 points each. The Lady Braves rebounded late in the third quarter when they switched up their defensive scheme from a zone to a full press. The Lady Braves got as close as 12 points before the Lady Grangers put it away. Jones said the goal for her team is to put together a full four quarters of solid play. "If we can continue to be that first and second quarter team throughout the game I think we will be fine," Jones said. "We just have to keep working and move on from there, and play defense all the way through. We are trying to get out of the bad habits and I think that the girls are buying into what we are doing pretty well, we just have to keep working at it."
