Valparaiso University Lady Crusaders Coach Keith Freeman has announced the signing of Vincennes University guard Charae Richardson to a National Letter of Intent to continue her collegiate basketball career at Valparaiso in the fall.
Richardson will have two years of eligibility remaining with the Lady Crusaders. Valpo also signed Ieva Jansone, a Riga, Latvia, native and 6-0 guard from Miles Community College.
“These two additions add to a talented class that includes two Indiana All-Stars in Jessica Carr and Mallory Ladd, as well as Shaquira Scott,” Freeman said. “This class is very strong, athletic and has versatility. All of these players can score in a variety of ways.”
The 5-6 Richardson averaged 11.6 points and 3.2 rebounds per game last season for the Lady Trailblazers. She added 3.5 assists and 2.2 steals per game while shooting 81% from the free throw line, helping VU to a 28-4 record and the NJCAA Div. I National Championship Tournament. A Lafayette native and Jefferson High School product, Richardson earned NJCAA Div. I All-Region XII honors.
“Charae is a very smart player who can defend, handle the ball, and score,” Freeman said. “She has the ability to get to the free throw line. She’ll add strength to our perimeter.”
