Lafayette Jeff football falls at St. Joseph
September 3, 2014Lafayette Jefferson High School
Lafayette Jeff traveled far enough Friday night that it was able to escape the weather delays that interrupted nearly every area game.
The Bronchos were not, however, able to escape South Bend St. Joseph.
Totaling just 18 yards on the ground all night, Jeff (0-2) could not generate any consistent offense in a 23-0 loss to the Indians.
“They were a big, physical team,” Lafayette Jeff coach Andy Kennedy said. “We didn’t move the ball very well at all on offense, especially in the first half.”
St. Joseph got the only points it would need on Zach Credi’s 19-yard field goal in the first quarter. Touchdown runs by Ryan Mannell and Tajah Smith in the second quarter put the Bronchos in a 17-0 halftime hole.
Kennedy lamented his team’s inability to gain yardage consistently against the Indians’ defense. Jeff finished the night with eight first downs and 118 total yards, but nearly all of that production came late in the game.
“We just put our defense in some bad positions,” Kennedy stated. “We just left them out on the field too long.”
Jeff makes its official return to North Central Conference play next week at McCutcheon.
