January 22, 2014Lafayette Jefferson High School
Luke Wehner scored with 5.2 seconds to play Friday night, giving Fishers a 67-65 overtime victory over Lafayette Jeff at Crawley Center.
Devin Haney’s game-winning 3-point attempt was blocked at the buzzer, handing the Bronchos (2-9) a disappointing loss. Lafayette Jeff led by four points in the fourth quarter before the Tigers forced overtime on Devin Chaudion’s basket with less than a minute to play.
Darian Collins gave Lafayette Jeff a 61-59 lead in overtime, but Fishers tied the game again on Andre Small’s basket. Freshman David Hanyard gave the Bronchos their final lead on a field goal with just over a minute to play.
Chaudion hit a 3-pointer and Fishers (5-7) had a chance to expand its lead when Small was fouled by Collins. But Small only hit one free throw, allowing Hanyard to tie the game with a basket with less than a minute to go.
Trevor Mays hit a pair of free throws just before halftime to give Lafayette Jeff a 33-31 lead. Collins hit a 3-pointer and a basket late in the third quarter to send the Bronchos into the final eight minutes of regulation leading 47-43.
Hanyard finished with 23 points and Collins scored 18 for the Bronchos, who travel to Anderson Saturday night.
