January 22, 2014Lafayette Jefferson High School
A miserable fourth quarter ensured Lafayette Jeff’s losing streak would reach six games as host Valparaiso pulled away for a 54-40 boys basketball victory Saturday night.
The Bronchos had pulled within 39-38 entering the fourth quarter, having made better than 50 percent (14 of 27) of its shots. But Lafayette Jeff missed nine of its 10 shots in the final eight minutes.
Darian Collins paced the Bronchos with 14 points and seven rebounds. The smaller Bronchos (2-8) once again outrebounded an opponent, finishing with a 24-18 edge against the Vikings. Quarin Hood added 13 points, but no other Lafayette Jeff player made more than two field goals.
Connor TenHove had 15 points and Justin Osburn added 14 for Valparaiso (7-4).
After falling behind 19-6 in the first quarter, Lafayette Jeff got back in the game by shooting 60 percent (12 of 20) during the second and third quarters.
The Vikings have won four in a row in the series against Lafayette Jeff, which returns to Hoosier Crossroads Conference play Friday night at Crawley Center against Fishers.
