Harrison's second-half scoring burst overpowers Lafayette Jeff

August 22, 2012
Lafayette Jefferson High School

The Harrison boys soccer team booted six goals in the second half, two each by Nestor Sededji and Chris Bush, to lead the Raiders to a lopsided 8-0 home victory over Hoosier Crossroads Conference rival Lafayette Jeff on Tuesday night. Despite it being so early in the season, Sededji said the victory was still a big deal. “It’s our crosstown rivals, so we had to do it,” said Sededji, Harrison’s top returning goal scorer from last season. “It means a lot of bragging rights.” Sededji punched in goals at the 36:56 and 30:19 marks in the second half to double the Raiders’ halftime lead to 4-0. He finished with three goals. Less than a minute later, Bush scored an unassisted goal and Tyler Kirby added a goal on a pass from Austin Webb at the 29:52 mark. Bush added his second unassisted goal at the 19:02 mark. Spencer Maley tallied the final goal on an assist from Keith Barnes with 12:48 left. “Nestor and I practiced all summer long being up top and we’ve really developed a chemistry with each other,” Bush said. “We know each other’s strengths and weaknesses.” The second half displeased Lafayette Jeff coach Tim Hollendonner. Hollendonner said his team needs to get back to basics after generating just three shots on goal along with its second half defensive collapse. “In high school soccer you shouldn’t have to teach the basics but it’s going to be grassroots for us,” Hollendonner said. “We’ve got to figure out spacing and finding our shape. We had all the intensity in the world on the bus ride over but it was nonexistent when we stepped on the field.” Two well-executed free kicks by Branden Thompson generated Harrison’s first-half goals. “We’ve practiced those quite a bit,” Harrison coach Bryan Clouse said. “It was great to see them execute it the way they did because that’s just how you draw it up.” Hollendonner said the Bronchos surrendered easy chances. “We didn’t match up too well,” Hollendonner said. “We weren’t first to the ball; we didn’t even use the width of the field. All of that’s stuff is frustrating. The three shots we did have we shanked.”
