Wild pitch completes Lafayette Jeff baseball team's rally
May 1, 2012
Lafayette Jefferson High SchoolFor the fourth time in five games, Lafayette Jeff rallied for a baseball victory in its final at-bat Tuesday night against Kokomo at Loeb Stadium.
Instead of a clutch hit, it took a simple wild pitch for the Bronchos to pull out a 10-9 victory in nine innings.
A leadoff walk to Daniel Nelson in the ninth came back to haunt Kokomo's Parker Sanburn. Pinch runner Ryan Kimerer reached second on Ethan Smith's sacrifice bunt and scored when Nate Franklin doubled to left center. Walks to Bailey Perdue and Austin Albrecht loaded the bases. With two out and Peter Ripke batting, Sanburn uncorked the wild pitch, and Franklin sprinted home.
Kokomo (1-3) had taken a 9-8 lead in the top of the ninth on a wild pitch by Ethan Smith.
The Bronchos (5-3) came back from an 8-0 deficit after one and a half innings, tying the game in the fifth on Ripke's sacrifice fly. Albrecht went 2-for-3, and Griff Clark and Nelson each drove in two runs for Jeff.
