11th Region Tournament Day 1 Recap

The Lafayette High School boys' tennis team took to the court in the 11th Region Tournament yesterday at Shilito Park and Lexington Christian Academy.  The Generals took home 4 total team points picking up wins in both singles and doubles.

In first round singles action, Lafayette senior Ethan Hughes defeated Scott County's Palmer Ward by a score of 6-3, 6-0.  In other first round singles action, Lafayette sophomore Alex Money fell to #7 seed Alex Dubilier of Henry Clay by a score of 6-1, 6-0.

In first round doubles action, Lafayette duo Ben Armbruster and Jonathan Griggs picked up a win against Lexington Catholic's Deaton and Schindler by a score of 6-2, 6-2.  In second round doubles action top seeded Nathan Gillespie and Taylor Harris defeated Lexington Catholic's Mullinix and Rodes by a score of 6-1, 6-1 while Armbruster and Griggs fell to West Jessamine's #6 seeded Sparks and Sparks by a score of 6-0, 6-2.

Quarterfinal play begins this afternoon at Lexington Chrisitian Academy at 4:30 pm.  #1 seed Nathan Gillespie and Taylor Harris will take on #7 seed Haley and Puckett from Lexington Christian for a berth in the 11th region semifinals.  The winner will also earn a berth in the 2012 KHSAA State Doubles Championship.
