Kougars win Rensselaer Relays

The Kankakee Valley boys swim team won the Rensselaer Relays on Saturday. The meet was hotly contested with several lead changes throughout the event. With a 3 way tie between the Kougars, Twin Lakes and Rensselaer going in to the last event, the 400 breaststroke relay team of Frank Lapota, Trevor Shelhart, Zach Ratliff and Trevor Overstreet won to seal the exciting victory. The was the first win for KV at this event. Final team scores were KV 92, Rensselaet 86, Twin Lakes 82, Griffith 50 and Benton Central 42.
The meet opened on a high note with the 200 medley relay team of Cody Jones, Frank Lapota, Zach Ratliff and Trevor Overstreet defeating Twin Lakes 1:48.26 to 1:48.41. This was a season best time. Those 4 boys also won the 200 free relay with a season best time of 1:39.59.
The Kougars are 2 and 2 on the season losing to powerhouse NCC opponents Highland and Munster, and victories over Griffith and Oregon Davis. The Kougars host Merrillville Monday December 19th at 5:30.
