Home » Cross Country NewsBoys' CC versus Griffith and HobartSeptember 13, 2011 By Tim Adams of Kankakee Valley High SchoolKV boys ran a decent race for the midweek against a superior Hobart team and a relatively weaker Griffith squad. Travis Conley hung with the lead pack and started pulling away by midrace. Cody Jones stepped into the team's 2nd slot, followed by Trevor Overstreet, Justin Wicker, and Robert Svitek.
Coach's commentary:
Hobart packed fairly well. The NCC title meet will be interesting, as there is much parity among Munster, Lowell, Hobart, and Highland, all chasing Andrean. I am not saying that we are sentenced to a 6th place finish, for nothing is predetermined, nothing is guaranteed. I do like, however, the quiet optimism amongst the team that our training kicks in once we reach October.
We have to continue to manage the things that we have control over--with plenty of sleep (yes, YOU, my Facebook friends) at the top of the priority list. Again, I've tweaked our training in some small yet significant ways, a little tougher for the quality workouts, a greater dedication for keeping in the long run, and backing off a bit more ocasionally on Friday for some extra recovery. This week, though, is a tough week of training. So again, rest up. Stretch. Hydrate.
Peaking is never a guaranteer, though frankly it seems to happen naturally after so many weeks of harder running. I think that I am seeing signs here and there of some of us jumping up in performance: the training effect is kicking in. While no one can know what YOUR best effort is, your fastest possible time, we all suspect that it is faster than you are currently running. So let's keep chasing that best possible time. Who knows if it will be fast enough to place 1st, 2nd, or 10th. But it's worth the excitement to find out and to try. I feel strongly that that is what you believe...which is why I am here.
Times will be posted later.
